When I was in university, an editor at the student newspaper took me on almost as an apprentice. I later found out he was interested in me beyond our professional relationship, and that was why he was interested in spending time with me, not because he thought I was necessarily talented.
My first job, the store owner told me he was happy I was on the cashier because I was very beautiful so people would like to talk to me.
At the time, I always took these as compliments, but now looking back on it I’m disgusted by it.
